उत्पाद विवरण

EN 45545-2 is the European fire protection standard for railway vehicles. It defines requirements for materials and products used in trains, especially regarding fire behavior (flammability, smoke, toxicity).

When you mention R22 and R23 HL3, you are referring to specific requirement sets within the standard:

  • R22 “ Electric cables inside vehicles

  • R23 “ External electric cables

Each "R" requirement set specifies test methods and performance limits.
The Hazard Levels (HL1, HL2, HL3) indicate how stringent the requirements are, depending on the operation category of the train (HL3 = the most severe, e.g., underground or high-capacity trains).

For R22 & R23 at HL3, the materials must comply with:

EN ISO 5659-2 “ Smoke density test (optical density of smoke under flaming & non-flaming conditions).
EN ISO 5659-2 + EN 45545-2 Annex C “ CIT (Conventional Index of Toxicity), measuring toxic gases.
EN ISO 4589-2 “ Oxygen Index (minimum OI ‰ 32%).
EN ISO 9239-1 (for flooring cables) “ Critical heat flux (for flame spread, but usually not for cables).
EN 60332-1-2 “ Flame spread test (single cable).
EN 60332-3-24 “ Flame spread test (bunched cables, Cat. C).
EN 61034-2 “ Smoke density of cables (light transmission ‰ 60%).
EN 60754-1 & EN 60754-2 “ Halogen acid gas emission, pH ‰ 4.3, conductivity ‰ 10 µS/mm.

summary: EN 45545-2 R22 & R23 HL3 contains the strictest requirements for fire performance of cables in trains:

  • High flame retardancy,

  • Low smoke density,

  • Low toxicity,

  • Halogen-free (limited acidity and conductivity).
