EN 45545 2 R22 23 HL3 is a European fire safety standard mainly used in railway applications to control the fire performance of materials used in rolling stock.
EN 45545 2
This part of the standard defines fire behavior requirements for materials and components used inside and outside railway vehicles.
R22 and R23
R22 and R23 are requirement sets within the standard. R22 applies to materials used in exterior parts of railway vehicles. R23 applies to materials used in interior parts such as walls ceilings floors and technical equipment areas.
HL3
HL3 stands for hazard level three which is the highest fire safety level in the standard. It is required for vehicles operating in high risk conditions such as underground service long tunnels or high passenger density operation.
Requirements
Materials must meet strict limits for heat release smoke density smoke toxicity and flame spread. Fire performance is verified through standardized laboratory tests defined in EN 45545.
Typical applications
Compliance with EN 45545 2 R22 23 HL3 is required for materials used in metro trains high speed trains and passenger coaches including bellows rubber components insulation panels cables and sealing materials.
